Pick-up at your hotel, then our base in Rabil next to the airport. Safety briefing, helmet, goggles and scarf, and a test drive on our closed circuit: you leave only when you feel comfortable with the buggy.
We start towards the old village of Rabil, then head south into what people here call the Cape Verdean Death Valley, as far as the church of Santo Antonio: first stop, photos and a bit of history.
Driving east across a desert of stones the landscape shimmers in the heat, and after twenty minutes it opens into the oasis of Fonte Vicente: a spring, cultivated fields and a magnificent baobab in the middle of the rock. Second stop, then a dusty track north brings us back to the cobbled road and to Rabil.
