Riu Palace, the fifth hotel of the famous Spanish chain

Eleven years after the inauguration of the first hotel development in Cape Verde, the RIU Group announces the construction of the Riu Palace, the fifth hotel in the country, on the island of Boa Vista, starting from 2017, with a budget of 80 million euros. In addition, it has invested around 37 million euros in restructuring its properties on the island of Sal. With this investment the group wants to show that it has come to stay because he believes in Cape Verde as a great tourist destination.

Government stability, favorable climatic conditions and the attitude of the people of Cape Verde are the three factors that have dictated the investment of the RIU Group in the tourist market of Cabo Verde. The declaration is by Yeray Zurita, director of the Riu Palace in Boavista.

The restructuring of the Riu Palace and the Club Hotel Riu Funaná on the island of Sal forced the group to make a financial effort of 37 million, equivalent to four billion escudos. Earlier this week, Cape Verdean media were invited to testify to internal innovations.

More bars, gourmet restaurants built from scratch, more leisure facilities, heated swimming pools, expanding the space for children, a completely renovated spa that includes Turkish baths, massage service, jacuzzi, all created to attract a more selective audience and demanding.

“The tourism sector is becoming more competitive and the most demanding tourists, our goal is always to exceed the expectations of our customers because we came to stay”, reinforces Yeray Zurita, a native of the Canary Islands who chose Cape Verde seven years ago his second home.

“I am proud to see the relationship between the islands of Cape Verde and the Canary Islands closer to each passing day. There are many similarities between the two tourist destinations and our intention is always to use our experience in the Canaries, that is, keep in mind the mistakes made and the correct solutions to increasingly improve the tourist destination of Cape Verde”, he says.

On the island of Boa Vista, the Riu Touareg hotel has been expanded and now has 300 more rooms, for a total of 1.100 rooms, as well as other “pampering” built especially for its guests as an infinity pool. The investment made is around 8 million euros. Currently the group has almost 3 thousand rooms, adding the hotels of Sal and Boa Vista.

The four existing hotels – Touareg and Karamboa, in Boa Vista, Palace and Club Funaná on the island of Sal – will be joined in 2018 at the fifth hotel of the group in the archipelago: the Riu Palace, in Boa Vista. According to the director of the Riu Palace Cabo Verde, about 80 million euros will be engaged in its construction.
